from computerandvideogames.com
Wednesday 4th June 2003 EXCLUSIVE: SCI SNAPS UP RAGE'S ROLLING
New lease of life for the impressive inline skater as the UK publisher gears up for next-gen release - exclusive shots and interview inside
10:52 UK publisher SCi has snapped up the rights to publish extreme sports console title Rolling, we can reveal. Formerly a product of the now defunct UK development and publishing outfit Rage Software, the promising title has been given a new lease of life by SCi and is due for release on PS2 and Xbox later this year.
Marking a refreshing change from the torrent of skateboards, BMXs and snowboards flooding the genre, Rolling offers up the thrills 'n' spills of the inline skating world. Featuring top stars of the discipline, including Jon Julio, Cesar Mora and Fabiola da Silva, Rolling offers numerous modes of play, countless trick options, expansive real-world environments and a single-player career mode built on 'reputation'.
The icing on the cake is an impressive array of video clips featuring the experts in action, backed by a storming set of licensed tracks from the likes of The Hives and Chuck D.
SCi clearly saw potential in the erstwhile Rage product, but we managed to have a brief chat with SCi development director Darren Barnet to get a clearer picture:
Why did SCi choose to pick up Rolling?
Barnet: Because we saw the game was available and were extremely impressed by it and thought it would be an ideal title to add to our portfolio.
We believe you've brought over members of the original team from Rage - can you give us an idea of numbers and who these people are?
Barnet: No. But it's the right amount to complete the game, basically. They're the lead members of the original development team.
How complete is the product currently?
Barnet: It's very complete.
Are you planning any changes to the code yourselves?
Barnet: As I said, we picked it up because it's a very good, complete product, so we're not going to make any changes to it
And the licensing - will that all remain intact?
Barnet: Yes; it's important to us that all the skate stars remain in the game. That's part of the package, basically. It's got the leads of street skating in it and they need to remain in it.
Which formats will you be release Rolling on?
Barnet: PS2 and Xbox.
And when will it release?
Barnet: We're still determining that at present.
As soon as we learn more, we'll let you know. An official announcement is expected later today.
