Why is our Government so intent on extreme sports now? Isn't it the very whoring of the values and principles of our sport itself?

eugene - - a little too late for that argument man...
when the x games first started in malaysia - - the govt was all over it...... roadshows, camps, circuit comps you name it = they did it. and have to admit - -it was quite thrilling to see them to enthusiastic about it.
but now that the x games are over (both in malaysia and around the world) - their enthusiasm kinda died.
so - - do worry - - there's no whoring going on anymore.

I was just wondering, all governement policies require consultation right? The point is why haven't the extreme sport population been consulted. What the hell are we doing with the direction of our sport? We should have focused more on the grassroots of the sports rather then throwing full blown comps immediately. A lot of that money could have gone to building probable skateparks of use. The problem i see with the Malaysian government's style of doing things is the lack of vision and the fundamental understanding and of the concept of having extreme games itself. Our trends are made into fads that fade away.

well it took the malaysian sports council 20 years to create a grassroots football programme, and there is a lot less interest shown in rollerblading so i doubt theres going to be a 'tunas rollerblading' or anything, anytime soon. and at the time i think competitions were the right thing to do. malaysia wanted to get quick notoriety at the asian x-games, and the best way to do that was to give kids competition experience. one or two year isnt enough time to create a pro-skater from a grassroots level, thats going to get golds at the asian x-games. at least it meant the consruction of a decent skatepark.
