KAEK
nice article guys. quick tip to anyone thinking of buying a camera DO NOT buy any of those "dvd" cameras, they are lower quality than minidv cameras. they export straight to dvd ram and the quality isn't as good as it is on minidv tape.

some might find adobe premiere quite confusing. for a more user friendly software..maybe go for Roxio's product

yes i do personally find premiere to have too many windows in ther interface. premiere has it's own strength and they are softwares used in the video industry. once when Avid machine used to cost 20K and above, premiere was the only software that could run on desktops. and now with Final Cut HD, you can import HD quality of footage.
yes those DVD cams encodes your footages straight to MPEG4. MiniDV and ProDVs still maintain it's broadcast quality. and with those 3 softwares mentioned above you can bring your finished edits to a broadcasting house and they can play your stuff on their machine without the compromise of quality.
as for recorders, i've found sony to shoot in the dark than other brands. panasonic has nice daytime colours. low end canons are a gamble but their highends such as GL2 and XL1s is used by many production house these days to replace Betacams

yeah we know your dad's is with malaysia.tv
well if i had an xl1 i wouldnt want to lend it to anyone either. not even my son since it's the company's.
but if anyone can shoot on 16mm, holla at me. film is a million times better than digital in the aspect of softness of the picture and vibrance.
