hey there guys, i miss you all.. attitude is the only thing that will bring back the magic.. brunei skaters are magic people. best i have known by far.. 'stylin high five' garfield (the cat that drowned in the flood) was this the same garfield as the one that did Noisy Minority? You knew! Yes! It is the same Garfield who was involved with the company 2by4 that brought Noisy Minority skate clothing 2by4 started in 1994 as Australia's first inline video production company releasing their first video "Public Transport" in 1995 and the sellout video "Festival of Madness in 1996 It is in 1997 that Noisy Minority progressed into skate clothing Brunei rollerbladers were the first outside of Australia to have a taste of Noisy Minority

i was tryin to find some article when i found this thread. i thot i give you some updates on the brunei scene.
There 'was' a 'skatepark' near the national stadium in bandar since 2003/2004.. but in late 2005/early 2006, it was taken down. reason? renovation! but to date, NOTHING is done. Last that i heard from them was it's in the tendering process with the govt.. so ya... have to wait. the BSA is now SILENT! i havent met any of the members! in fact, i duno if they are still around!
there is another 'skatepark' in tutong district. it is REALLY small.. in fact, i wouldnt call it a skatepark, jus a place to skate.. ahahha anyways... i was told that, by 2008, a new skatepark would be built behind a newly developed shopping complex. so fingers crossed on this one! i will be personally in touch with the officer-in-charge of this project. so hopefully things would work out as planned.
Jerudong skatepark is still as it is... and as fas as im aware, not alot of ppl are skate there.
another similar ramp like in jerudong is at seria, near the Oil and Discovery Center. its been there since 2004(i think) and again... not alot of ppl skate there.
the only skatepark that is still the best (for me personnally in brunei anyways), is at the Pandan Lagoon area in Kuala Belait. Concecrete skatepark with a mini ramp + park combined. im not sure if i have posted the pic before, but i'll try to get the pics here.
There was a skateboard competition that was held last month at the pandan lagoon skatepark. it was organised by the sports and youth department of kuala belait. I am currently in touch with the sports and youth department of tutong district to organise a similar competition, as well as some side activities (the side activities is to encourage enterprenuership among young people) --> man i sound so old now! ahhahahahahahah anywaysss... i will get some updates for this one in the future...
on rollerblading side: i was out of the scene for almost a year, but now im back in the scene. skated with some familiar faces (well, of course, considering i drag all my 'crew' to skate with me ahhaha) and some new faces, which is good. Putra, lani, bob, sadiq are no longer skating (as far as im aware that is), but Bahrum is still skating. not alot of people when i was out of the scene... so i hope, there will be more rollers soon!
and for the last update: i will finish up a short skate video of bruneian rollers and post it to youtube. i've completed about 80-85% of the video. im too busy with work, life with family, gf, rollerbalde, and now, im doing part-time ACCA. so ya.. i will try to finish it up as soon as i can.

About Pandan Lagoon no pics posted before.
About Skateparks in Brunei its Brunei loss if the authority do not built skateparks because many Asian countries are building them and their extremers keep rising.
Brunei is already represented in the Asia Extreme Federations lets hope they work hard for the benefits of Brunei extremers.
With all the works you have been doing for your scenes which is great considering you are a busy man perhaps it is time you have went a step further and set up a body to represent Brunei rollers on an official level.
Man I should learn some accounting from you someday.

lets not forget samsul too... kindgrind-ing anything anywer... i jus hope all/some of em would still wana skate... the last time i met yura, i think it was last year, he was asking me about new skates n all... i havent got in touch wif him since then.. let's jus hope he will be back in the scene!
I will dig in to my pc later and post the pandan lagoon skatepark pic by this week!
"About Skateparks in Brunei its Brunei loss if the authority do not built skateparks because many Asian countries are building them and their extremers keep rising." --> that is true.. but i understand why/if the authority would delay the project... the thing is... bruneian skaters (in general) is still considerably small (wel, dats still d case in other countries but leme jus finish my point) and the amount of effort put in by us(skaters) is probably still not enough to convince them. and they tend to see us as an on/off activity.. and i dun think anyone is pushin them to deploy the project...
my involvement is limited to the govt officials in the tutong district, and im not involved in anyways with the BIG GOVT in the main office nor im involve with the BSA. (i personnally think that the so-called president is kinda pissed at me bcoz i organised the first-and-only street competition --i jus dun wana start bitchin n all hahahaha anyways...) and i dunt noe who is representing Brunei in the Asia Extreme Federations.. will try to look more into that wen i get the time.. ehehe
chinamen, wat do u mean by "a step further and set up a body to represent Brunei rollers on an official level"?
before i started work last year, wel.. even when i was still 'younger' and still skating hard, i made a promise to myself and to my friends that, no matter what i do, no matter what my ability to skate, no matter how old i get, no matter how i busy i get, i will try my best to be involved in the industry, directly or indirectly just for the sake of our Brunei scene! so let's jus hope that, i will be able to do dat... i get inspirations from all of you guys... keats, yeng, naz, bala, nick... all of you kjrollers and wheel lovers..

Eyan to set up a body is to have a body like an organisation or an association to represent Brunei rollers.
With a registered body you can deal with the government or any professional bodies out there in the world.
Of course doing this kind of job is not easy but since you already said so yourself no matter what no matter what you are going to do it so getting this done would probably fullfill that childhood dream of yours even more.
You could set up something quite similar to the Brunei Skaters Association except that yours will be meant to represent the rollers.
In the past Brunei rollers used to be the toasts of many countries and look what happen now?
Although the scene is small but like all the other scenes in Asia it is growing and there are still people who are willing to volunteer and one such person is Pg Hj Redzaini Pg Hj Ahmad or better known as Zai.
And he is close to the Brunei rollers so can he be pissed off with you?
On a related note can you run the 1st and only street comp here and we all love to bitch about it.

I know Zai, and yes, he is/was pissed at me! When I organized the competition, someone told him about it, and he came up the place (yayasan in Bandar) and confronted me, and ask me to stop the competition immediately. He even called up my father asking him if he knew where I was (the funny thing is, my father was there with me!). I don’t remember the exact words he said, but it sounds something like, “you better stop this competition. It doesn’t make us (skaters) look good when people see you skating in public places. We (Brunei Skating Association – BSA) just had a meeting recently. Don’t do something that would ruin our plan. We have big plans for 2005!” I was persistent to continue the competition, and that made him pissed, and he started yelling infront of all the rollers, saying something like, “since my brother is joining this competition, if anything happens to him, if he’s injured, you all as my witnesses, the first person that I will go up to is him (pointing fingers at me)” then he went off. I think the brother was kinda embarrassed and he stop from competing. Later that day (during the competition that is), he went to the (then) skatepark and started to bitch about me… saying things like how I am making the skaters look bad and all… “WE HAVE BIG PLANS FOR 2005”… now it is 2007 already, nothing is done, except he tore down the skatepark at stadium.
To be honest, I have nothing against him. I have nothing against BSA. I was doing something to make the rolling scene stronger… I was trying to get Bruneian rollers to one place and skate together. We don’t normally have that kinda thing anymore… I didn’t mind if he wanted to stop the competition, but when he starts to bitch about me, that’s not something that we (skaters) all want right? Well, if you think differently, I wouldn’t mind. Its open for criticism/comments.
Anyways, about setting up the organization/association, I actually did this previously. It was called Tutong Aggerssive Skaters Club (TASC), a club representing Tutong district’s rollers and boarders. I initiated this with the tutong district’s youth and sports department. Since its establishment, there were a few activities that was carried out: a skate trip to Seria skatepark and Lagoon Skatepark, an official visit to RTB (I think you all know that right?), and a skate competition that was held at a temporary skatepark in Tutong in august/September 2003, just before I left Brunei for my degree programme to UK. It has not been active since I left Brunei. But I met one of the officer-in-charge late last year, and that was when I was told that there is a plan to develop a proper skatepark in Tutong area behind a newly developed shopping complex. i am still in touch with them, and like I mentioned before, I’m in the process of proposing a skate competition to be held later this year (perhaps). I could try ask around on how to get in touch with any professional bodies outside Brunei. I have asked *someone* who’s organizing the Asian x games about Brunei’s involvement in the games when I was in UK, but I’ve lost contact since then as I was not able to contact anyone from BSA. I should probably get in touch with Esham, a skaterboarder, who opened the first skateshop in Brunei – Infinite Loop. he was the one who dealt with the other professional bodies, and he managed to register myself in the 2004 x games, and a couple of skateboarders at another competition.

Eyan normally a professional association should be the one that should come and support you and offer to help you since you are doing something based on private initiatives.
Then they should send an invitation and invite you to join them but not through threats and sabotages.
Starting a club is easy but starting an association is harder and building it up is even more harder and so you will face many challenges like the ones you have faced.
That is normal if you want your club or association to become successfull that is to take up all these challenges.
But what is important is you have all the rollers behind you.
For professional contacts you do not have to look far this Sukeats dude I was told is always full of surprises.

am i?...i thought i was full of shit.
anyway - in all seriousness - at the end of the day - everyone has the right/responsibility to set their own destinies (to hell with fate).
if no one's gonna do something for the local scene - its up to you to kick start things. yes. i suppose there will be inconveniences along the way - but hey - what doesnt kill you makes you stronger, if you never fall you'll never get up and all those nonsense mumbo jumbo cliches.
my point: if someone's gonna do it, it might as well be you.
